Flights Canceled in Shanghai and Port ContainerYards Closed by Onset of Typhoon Chanthu

Due to the landfall of Typhoon Chanthu in the Shanghai region, air operations were suspended at Shanghai-Pudong International Airport (PVG) on September 13, with local announcements made in advance. All flights from and to PVG have also been pre-emptively cancelled for September 14. The storm’s slow movement through the area may precipitate further cancellations on September 15.

Although some airlines will offset loss of space with additional flights next week, significant capacity recovery may not be observed until the end of September. Intra-Asia lanes remain the most affected, although KWE’s outbound backlog to Japan that accumulated during PVG’s shutdown in August has been resolved.

Container yards at the ports of Ningbo-Zhoushan and Zhapu closed on September 12 at 20:00 local time (GMT+8); the ports of Shanghai-Yangshan, Taicang, and Shanghai-Waigaoqiao closed their container yards on September 13.
