Advisory: Notice of Carrier-Imposed Covid-19 Emergency Surcharges

As effects of the COVID-19 crisis change the global economy, many industries have been hard-hit, including essential service providers in transportation and logistics. While some businesses were able to act swiftly to mitigate loss, others have been forced to make difficult decisions to ensure the welfare of their companies.

Multiple reports have surfaced that carriers are imposing “COVID-19 Emergency Surcharge” on accepted shipments, citing high demand and reduction of resources. In addition, some ports are imposing a Port Congestion Surcharge on shipments due to major congestion.

World Wide Customs will continue to negotiate with carriers on behalf of and in support of clients, and will not impose its own surcharges related to COVID-19. However, all carrier-imposed and terminal-imposed charges will be passed through to clients unless otherwise noted.
