2018 Peak Season Heating Up

According to the UK Loadstar, reporting from forwarders there is limited capacity on Asia-North America, with rates from Hong Kong surpassing 2017 levels. Capacity ex-Hong Kong was particularly in demand, and bulky, loose or dense cargoes bookings are a struggle in finding space.

Additionally Loadstar reported that the air freight market is very busy in China and Asia and the rate are increasing every week. Space is still extremely tight, even with high rates. Fuel prices are also on the rise, with many carriers raising surcharges, and all carriers out of Hong Kong will raise surcharges from Thursday. The other question is how e-commerce will affect the peak season – and for how long.
